This museum was initially the painter’s studio since 1857. He moved there to be closer to the Saint Sulpice church, of which he decorated the chapel; he stayed there until his death in 1863. “My accommodation really is charming (…). Woke up the next morning seeing the most gracious sun on the houses that are in front of my window, The view of my little garden and the funny aspect of my studio always give me a feeling of pleasure.” (Journal, 28th of December 1857). The Société des Amis d’Eugène Delacroix, known for public usefulness, looked after the studio and promoted the artist’s work, until the national museum was created in 1971 and the building ranked a s historical monument in 1991. The museum displays a number of the painter’s works like the Descente au Tombeau, La Montée au Calvaire, various drawings, aquarelles, self-portraits and a series of lithographic stones and copies of the frescos of the library’s ceiling in the Chamber of deputies.
